The past week has been quite eventful. Our brother/brother-in-law/uncle and housemate for the past eight months left to serve a two year mission in Colorado Springs.
Greg's been living with us (during the week) since he graduated last June. It's been a little crazy, but also fun. It was definitely different around here when he packed up and left us at the end of January to take some time off for his final preparations. Quiet.
As of last weekend he was suddenly looking very much like the missionary he was about to become.

He gave an excellent talk in church on Sunday about being valiant in Christ. He read some excerpts from Grandpa Johnson's journal, which was particularly moving - not only because Grandpa has been an excellent patriarch and example of one who is valiant, but also because Grandpa suffered a stroke a couple of weeks ago and may not be here with us for much longer. It's made for some emotional days lately - the kind that are memorable and special and make you appreciate the gospel and family.
An - on with even more appreciation - we were quite privileged on Tuesday night to gather at Grandma and Grandpa Johnson's for Greg's setting-apart. It was a nice evening for so many reasons: seeing Grandpa awake and alert, hearing testimonies born, the amazing blessing from the stake president as he gave Greg the calling of missionary. And...it was also the 14th anniversary of the day Grandpa Johnson married Chris and I in the Jordan River Temple.

Another blessing of marriage: getting to be part of two great families.

No way.....those two pictures say sooooooo much. Wow....there is nothing as special as misionaries.....wow...that is sooo cool!
ohhh I am sorry about Grandpa Johnson's... how cool that he used his journal in his talk...oh my. Hope things are smoother now. Emotional days sometimes take a toll....
Laurie thank you so much for this post. You are so amazing! I really love and appreciate having you as a sister in law. You are a good example of what a daughter in law should be more like. I know my mom loves you so much. I need to be a better daughter in law. I love the pictures. i hope greg has a copy of both of those-how amazing. Chris is such a good big brother! Greg will one day really appreciate the opportunity he had to live with you guys. I forgot my grandpa married you guys-how special. Thanks again. I love you, Michelle
If you make the second pic. bigger you will see two more generations with my dad and Wilford Woodruff's name above him. kind of cool.
My mom said that Greg gave a really great talk and that the whole meeting was really special.
I love the picture of Chris and him at the MTC. I used to bring Greg to my house when he was that little so I could play with him. Funny.
thanks Laurie, that was really neat. Everything about this month has been extra special and to top it off with your anniversary with Grandpa......awesome.
Wow, those two pictures are really something. Great post!
This is wonderful! How cool are the then and now photos? Great events for your family for sure.
I am just now reading your post, thankyou so much it was really nice. Makes me homesick for Greg, but we won't tell him that. Just want him to do a great job. Thankyou for being there for him. I know he really enjoyed his work and thanks to Chris for helping him.
