Little Shop of Horrors

It's been years since I've thought of that musical (the 1986 film version). Then, yeterday afternoon I was in the dentist's chair listening to a little Jack Johnson on my iPod to take my mind off the horrors going on inside my mouth, feeling no pain since my mouth was almost entirely numb, when that sadistic Dentist song popped into my head:

"You'll be a dentist
You have a talent for causing things pain
Son, be a dentist
People will pay you to be inhumane"

It was a couple hours later when the pain showed up for real.

I had a gum graft. Two strips of gum removed from the roof of my mouth and stitched in along two-thirds of my lower gum line. This procedure was not done as a result of any pain or discomfort I've been experiencing. I only finally agreed to have it done after much persuasion and a final strong warning from my denstist that if I waited until I was experiencing pain or discomfort it would be too late to prevent the worst-case scenario. That's what convinced me to make the appointment with the periodontist.

Today I'm not talking or moving (much) or eating. Thankfully the kids are with my parents and my only approved activities are sleeping, reading or watching TV. (I added typing to the list.) It's all soft food for now. I'm running out of ideas - so far I've had ice cream and a Boost. What else can I have? Any good movie recommendations?

Poor girl. I know too much about your procedure and I'm guessing that it is the roof of your mouth that hurts the worst.
Enjoy the forced relaxation.

Oh man! That sounds so painful. I am sorry. I hope tomorrow is better for you.. I just can't even imagine that.
Did you ever see Bill Cosby "Himself" he's pretending he's in a dentist chair & trying to say smoke - smoke.. It is so funny, I crack up everytime I watch it...

That procedure sounds super painful! I'm sorry about that. Your food choices sound wise. Do you think you could handle mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC? That's what I lived on after I had my wisdom teeth pulled last year.

Sorry to hear about your gum procedure. My dentist tells me the same thing every time I go! I am not looking forward to having this done. I try to brush softly, what can I do?!

Hope you get better soon!

Oh I hope you are feeling better soon. I'm worried I might have to have a gum graft in the future because I brush so hard. Lets hope I don't and lets hope you are up and around again soon!
