The Clean Fairy?

Jemma has been learning about families in preschool. On three separate occasions she was asked what her mom loves to do, or is best at doing, and her answers - only with slight variation - have always been that I love to clean.

I noticed that several kids had similar answers about what their moms love to do, and none of them listed anything to do with cleaning on the questions about what your mom does not like to do. (Apparently I don't like to jump?)

I'm sort of feeling the need to explain that I don't necessarily LOVE to clean, life is just more enjoyable when things are in good order. So yesterday, I spent a few minutes in Jemma's room - without her - tidying up some odds and ends that have been out of place for weeks now. She came in later and exclaimed, "The Clean Fairy must have been here!!"

Hmmm....yes, let's let the Clean Fairy take the credit.

If you have kids, what do they think YOU love to do?

My kids would probably say I love blogging the best, but cleaning would be a strong possibility as well. Kids don't usually see us doing the things we like to do best because they often don't involve them, ha. It's nice you keep your house clean though. At Women's Conference last week many of the speakers mentioned the importance of having a clean, orderly home. I felt vindicated!

P.S. I don't like to jump, too much jiggling.

I just asked my four year old what he thought I loved to do and he said,"to go on the computer!" In that spirit I got on the computer to write you a comment!

I asked Joshy and he said, "Hmm, get new stuff? Like good treats and things?" Yeah, I like that pretty well!

Your cleaning fairy reminds me that I tell Joshy that if he leaves his toys out too long, the Toy Monster comes and gets them because he loves to play with toys. I had to be careful not to make the monster scary, just fun loving. It was going to be a way for me to put some of the excessive toys that accumulate in the shed for a while, then give them back so they could play with them like new. Kind of rotate toys and teach him to clean them up every day. But it evidently had a profound effect on him... any time I mention the Toy Monster or he thinks toys have been out too long, he really quickly puts them away. Ha ha, huzzah for magical thinking.

My kids did questionares like that in kindergarten, and they always wrote 'clean the house' for what I do when they're at school. It's a good one, much less embarassing than the 'goes shopping' answer I was afraid they'd give.

I always love questionaires like this because there is no telling what the answers might be. I think my child would say that I like taking pictures but she is 8 now.

We just started a gratitude journal together and one of the things I wrote the other day was "finishing a good book". Carly turned to me and asked "that makes you happy?". This was a huge suprise to me because I just assumed that she knew how much I love to read.

oh my gosh, the clean fairy REALLY needs to pay a visit to jack's room...

i clean out of necessity, and even though it brings me great joy in the end, i wish i could find the inspiration to clean under different circumstances.

They'd say that I watch TV on the computer. Or that I like to go to Coldstone. They'd say I don't like to get in the dirt.

It's so funny what they say when we're not around. There are times I worry about what my kids might come out with when asked questions about me! Yikes! I love seeing the answers Jemma chose for you. The jumping is very funny. I am going to have to ask my kids some of those questions just to see what they say.

PS I also love to clean. Nothing wrong with that, right?

supposedly Payton thinks I like cats?? Where did he get that? I so do not like cats, never have, and never will, but give me a dog any day.
