All Sorts Monday

I have to clarify a little bit about my last post. I'm not very sick -- just have a little cold that's mainly settled in my nose. So last night I was feeling sort of drained and tired, and as I picked up another tissue and looked at the pile that had accumulated during the day I felt very thankful for such a convenient thing. Soft, readily available, easily taken for granted.

This morning instead of our regular Relief Society presidency meeting we made marshmallow hearts, dipped in chocolate. (Didn't get a photo, but I will later.) I have to admit that I was not looking forward to this project. I was feeling like it was just one more thing to do that wasn't really necessary. Turns out it was kind of fun. We talked about President Hinckley and watched the news confrence announcing our new church presidency and it was a good time after all.

After finishing reading The Book Thief I have been hesitant to start another book. It left me with a lot to think about and remember. Just one more indicator of a really good book.

After yesterday, which - as any day - had potential to be a great day, but wasn't really, I read this quote that Cara posted on her blog and it made me smile inside:

"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride." (Jenkin Lloyd Jones of the Deseret News, as quoted by Gordon B. Hinckley)

Thank you for the card, that was thoughtful of you. I also appreciate that last quote, another reminder that wherever you go, there you are, and life is what you make it.
I'm immediately happy, and optimistic.

I'm so glad you liked that quote! I loved it and it sums up life pretty well I must admit. I hope you are feeling better soon!

Great quote and so true, it is a crazy ride, but I am so thankful to be on it. I love your posts.

I love that quote!

I felt the same way after reading The Book Thief, there was just so much to take in and so many feelings to process after it. I felt like I could start over again as soon as I finished it and I wasn't ready to move on to something else.

I loved that quote as well. It's so perfect. I'm so glad you liked The Book Thief! I wish we were in the same book club so we could talk about it--there was so much I wanted to mull over with someone when I finished it.
