The problem of the sale of monkeys as pets was brought to my attention yesterday. I know monkeys are rare and rather fascinating animals, I love watching them. And apparently they're a big enough issue to warrant attention from congress (it was being discussed on C-SPAN).
While it's probably quite a concern, I found it amusing. Especially this:
HOW YOU CAN HELP
• NEVER buy monkeys or any other wild animals as pets.
• ENCOURAGE your friends not to buy monkeys or any wild pets.
• DO NOT give positive reinforcement to owners of pet monkeys.
• REPORT any mistreatment to your local SPCA.
• IF YOU SEE A MONKEY FOR SALE IN A PET SHOP, write down the name of the shop and address and let IPPL know.
