Doctor De Soto by William SteigMy review
rating: 5 of 5 stars
This has to be one of my all-time favorite children's books. It would be interesting to see just how many times we've borrowed it from the library. It's so good that it deserves an in-depth review!
I remember being quite young the first time I encountered this satirical work of art. I love the fact that Doctor De Soto was brave enough to work on really large animals and smart enough to draw the line at dangerous ones(after all, he is a mouse).
He has such a great and versatile set-up (including a winch) in order to accommodate his various patients. I also really like how his wife's spunky side is revealed when she says, "Let's risk it," in order to relieve a fox from tooth pain (dangerous indeed!).
Favorite quote: "On his way home, he [the fox] wondered if it would be shabby of him to eat the De Sotos when the job was done."
And I really like how the De Sotos outfox the fox!!
Can you believe there is another Doctor De Soto book and I've never even read it? (Doctor De Soto goes to Africa)

I totally threw that on my 'to read' shelf. Better yet, I should put it on hold at my library right now.
I've never even heard of this book. I'm surprised you don't own a copy of it if it's your favorite.
Thanks for the recommendation. I always look for new books for my kids and often buy those that my friends recommend. This sounds really cute!
