More of Martha's beautiful eggsI know I am opening myself up for mockery on this one, but I'm taking the risk in hopes that maybe someone else will benefit from this information as I did.
I'm never sure - when boiling eggs - whether or not they will turn out. Sometimes they have that horrible dark ring around the yolk, sometimes the yolk isn't as solid as it should be, sometimes the shells crack during boiling, or they have a rubbery consistency (yuck).... Since we're getting ready to do the traditional decorating for Easter I thought I'd Google the subject and find the secret to a good egg.
The information I found was very detailed, so I'll break it down for you:
Step 1: Let the eggs sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. (This is to reduce the amount of temperature shock they experience when the start boiling.)
Step 2: Make sure they have plenty of room in the pot and fill pot with water to one inch above the eggs.
Step 3: Cover and heat just until they come to a rolling boil.
Step 4: Leave pot covered and remove to a cold part of the stove.
Step 5: Let sit for 30 minutes (for hard boiled).
Step 6: Drain hot water and rinse under cold water until they're touchable.
Ta Da! The process is successful.

Hey thanks, I swear everytime I boil eggs, I never remember the correct way, I always boil them forever, cause I am convinced that they have to boil forever to cook, but I'm going to try that.
You could have asked Jessica. Her family are expert egg boilers. Seriously, they're masters.
Dude, I just boiled 18 eggs totally wrong. I left them boiling for like 20 min cause I forgot and a bunch cracked and they're going to be utterly nasty.
I'll have to buy some potato salad just in case the eggs I boiled are strictly crazy!
I've never boiled an egg before! I don't like the smell and we don't eat them, so I'm clueless.
Whitney dyed eggs at a friend's house the other day so now we have a plate of 7 eggs that no one wants.
Thank you for the instructions! Like Sarah, I usually crack my eggs. I never know how long to cook them, etc. This is great info for Easter week, thanks :-)
I use to refer to Martha ever Easter because I could never remember, and they turned out bad if I didn't follow her instructions exactly.
We bought a steamer this year and it steams the eggs to perfection! 14 min put them in cold water...perfect eggs every time. We didn't buy the steamer for eggs, my husband is a rice snob, it's just a perk.
I for one am very glad you posted these instructions. I'm always crossing my fingers when boiling eggs. Seriously. I can make a souffle, but hard boiled eggs are beyond me.
