Birthday in Review

Jordan's birthday yesterday was also the first day of SPRING and spring break. Fortunate that he didn't have school and it was sunny. Unfortunate that most of his friends had already left town.

For breakfast he requested scrambled eggs and toast. I asked him what he wanted to do for lunch and offered to take him anywhere. He suggested (of all places) Chuck-a-Rama. I'm sure it's because that's the only place where he can go crazy on the chicken legs. He also suggested, in typical Jordan fashion, that we invite someone to come along. So Papa met us there for lunch. Jordan enjoyed a lot of chicken legs. Jemma had four plates lined up in front of her and I liked how Jordan described her method as "O.P.P.I." (one plate per item).

We've been planning the party for weeks. We made these invitations:

Assembled these great gift bags for the guests, which included a CD with Jordan's mix of music, a mechanical pencil, Reese's PB Cups, and a basketball full of jelly beans:

Planned a menu of: BBQ Hot Dogs, Chips, Grapes, Root Beer, and Cupcakes with custom toppings. I had to make two rounds of cup cakes. The first ones were sunken in and hard. The second ones, made according to the high altitude directions, were better. The original ones are pictured here although these are not the ones we served.

I wanted to do this for the beverages, but didn't plan far enough ahead of time. I'm filing this idea away for another big event.

And for the activities it was all basketball and football, followed by the Jazz game. It's a good thing Jordan got a D-Will jersey to wear to the game!

Too bad we didn't plan on three-quarters of the invited guests being away for Spring Break. At least three boys came and they all had fun. Jemma observed the festivities without getting too involved. She even set up an audience to watch them play ball.

That's too bad about most of his friends being gone for spring break, but that probably made it more intimate and easier on you right? It sounds like a great way to celebrate turning 12. The invitations and gift bags look great!

Looks like something Hallie would do! I think these two would get along...although Jemma is probably a lot more into some boy things because she has a older brother, seems shes pretty girly though:) What a fun party...cute treat bags!

Thanks for stopping by!

Looks like a fun party. I am wondering how to celebrate as my children get older...good ideas!

Is Jordan a Kobe fan? Just curious, because if so that must be the reason for the Laker's trouncing of the Jazz.

Did I miss what the beverage was you wanted to do? Couldn't see it. Just curious.

That looks like a fun birthday - I am loving the Jones idea, and I threw it into my *favorites*.
