The Name and Other Things

The poor pup without a name has a name at last. He still responds mostly to Puppy, and that wouldn't be so bad if it didn't sound so detached. Like he doesn't belong to anyone. Like Holly Golightly's cat in Breakfast at Tiffany's:

"Poor cat! Poor slob! Poor slob without a name! The way I see it I haven't got the right to give him one. We don't belong to each other."

His name is Hooper. He was born in a place called Hooper, so that's his name.

I've been wanting to formulate some thoughts about 2008, but so far it still feels just like 2007. I haven't really had time to think. Do you ever not have time to think?

I've been reading Gift from the Sea (in little snippets here and there, and on the plane last weekend). Anne Morrow Lindbergh very accurately describes life as being crowded and schedules tight. That's how it is at the moment. I'm trying to achieve a better sense of control and balance and, as she says, "to be the still axis within the revolving wheel of relationships, obligations, and activities."

I suppose I need to finish the last 30 pages of the book in order to find out what she discovered and how to accomplish this.

Leanne was going to suggest this but I see she hasn't so I will. She remembered that Chris was called Kippy when he was younger and thought that would be a cute name for the dog. We called Buddy our black lab Kipper Sport but kippy never stuck with him, but it would be cute for your little puppy, hooper is okay except if you are going to try and pronounce it the way you are suppose to pronounce the town it will be hard. Anyway cute dog!!!

Hooper is a cute name for your puppy.

Gift From the Sea is a great book to read at the start of a new year. Do you find yourself shaking your head at her insights and wondering how int he world she could have written that book so long ago? (Before the internet, soccer moms, and everything else that makes us crazy?)

KIPPY, KIPPY, KIPPY!!! Ok, Hooper is cute too, of course maybe you should should test it, have someone say Hooper, and someone say Kippy, and see who he comes to.

I personally like hooper. I am sure you aren't asking for suggestions after the fact of naming the puppy-Mom and Leanne. Maybe she did suggest it and they didn't use it. I hate to wish that I did something because if you want something bad enough you will do it but I do envey those who are good at reading. I enjoy you posts. Michelle

I am in love with Hooper, except his name would be Juicy if he were mine and I really wish he was.
