Birthday Celebrations

Pearl with her namesake Jemma Jessie Pearl

We really wanted to go to Matthew's birthday party this weekend in Flagstaff. We were disappointed to miss it, but we are planning to visit there soon and since we were here we got to celebrate Grandma Pearl's 86th birthday with her!

We had a nice dinner at Doug and Trudy's and then Trudy got out the video camera and taped the little kids asking their great-grandma questions about her life. I love that she is so willing to share her stories, and many of them were funny. She asked Trudy if she remembered their first time meeting and having dinner at the Meachams. Trudy gave her account of it - that she loved the farm and was impressed with how respectful the boys were of their mother. Then Pearl laughed and said what she remembered most was that she had made some sort of taco dish, put in a whole container of chili peppers and noticed that everyone drank a lot of water during dinner because it was so spicy! She thought Trudy must have gone away from that feeling very confident in her own cooking.

Some of the answers to the questions from the kids were:

Favorite food: Squash (pronounced squarsh) and carrot cake
Favorite song: All the hymns, especially Come, Come Ye Saints
Favorite grandkid: All of them! She has 25 grandkids and about twice that many great-grandchildren!
Favorite sport: Ping Pong

Thanks for the post, it's kind of funny how we just switched locations, I love St. George(it's hard to say Ivins), but I miss going to mom's house. Lar's house is so cute, it is beautiful in Flag, you guys have to go out soon. We are comeing up this weekend for a baby blessing in John's family, we'd love to see you guys. We could probably come up on Sat sometime. We'll probably stay at mom's on Fri, and Sat night.

Sorry Laurie, that comment wasn't from Cam and Michelle. Michelle signed me up under their account, so my blog is under their account, and when I want to leave comments, I have to leave them under a new account I made for us, but I don't know how to change our blog without starting over, so I have to change the account to leave comments.

Hey Laurie-this is me Michelle. I started to cry when I read your comments about grandma pearl. I really need to be better. I feel most guilty about not staying in touch with her because she is the one who would love it the most. I actually tried to call on sunday but her phone was busy until 10pm. I miss the days when she would talk to us forever on the phone.. It is amazing how you don't appreciate those things when you are younger. She is so amazing. that is such a cute pic of jemma and her. Flag was fun but I am glad you were there for grandma. It was fun to see their place-plan to go soon. Thanks Laurie
